Starting in Year 12? You’ll kick off with the National Diploma in Sport – a two-year powerhouse of a course that’s equivalent to two A-Levels. Want to take things even further? In Year 13, you’ll have the opportunity to level up to the National Extended Diploma, worth three A-Levels, and jam-packed with extra content to supercharge your progression.
Joining in Year 13? No problem! You’ll tackle the National Foundation Diploma, a focused one-year course equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels, featuring seven of the key units.
This course is predominantly coursework-based, with a mix of practical and theoretical learning, and a few externally assessed challenges – including one written exam worth 80 marks. But don’t worry – this isn’t just about sitting behind a desk.

Assessment
The course is made up of 9 units and is predominantly coursework based, with internally and externally assessed units. There is one written exam worth 80 marks.
Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology (Written exam)
Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (Externally assessed)
Unit 22: Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry (Externally assessed)
Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport
Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry
Unit 4: Sports Leadership
Unit 5: Application of Fitness Testing
Unit 6: Sports Psychology
Unit 8: Coaching for Performance
Students joining us for a one year course in Year 13 will start on the National Foundation Diploma in Sport which is equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels. This course has 7 units shown above in bold.
What could this qualification lead to?
Students who have completed this qualification in two years may progress to further learning at Level 3. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting, or contributing to, admission requirements for many relevant courses.
Students can progress to higher education on full degree single or combined courses, for example:
